Their Future. Your Voice.

Their Future. Your Voice.

I pledge to stand for…

  • A world where kids can grow up without being harmed by accessing graphic, violent online pornography
  • Prevention of children’s access to pornography through digital child protection buffers
  • Updated legislation and education to address pornography as a public health crisis that increases children and young people's vulnerabilities to sexual harms

Attention: parent, caregiver or child advocate!

This major health concern relates to children worldwide. Right now in Australia, it requires your immediate attention!

When people hear the words “porn” in relation to “children”, their immediate reaction is to turn away. This fear of having open and candid discussion about the impact of pornography on children is in part, the reason why we now must push harder than ever to bring this conversation to the forefront!

PLEASE DO NOT STOP READING

Every year that goes by that we choose to ignore the daunting research about the long term psychological, relational and physical health harms being done to children because of their ease of access to pornography, the more children’s futures are put at risk.

Yes, the subject matter may be uncomfortable to talk about.
No, Porn Harms Kids is not here to shock you - but inform you.

The research and statistics and that we provide for you on our site, have not been exaggerated to any extent. These are the very real facts based on current, up to date research - revealing the substantial long term impact that open and free access to mainstream pornography is having on our kids. We are so concerned about this issue that we released a report on September 25, 2017, calling on the Government to implement a solid action plan that brings together the core components of digital protection buffers, and cross sector, nationwide educational strategies that are fundamentally supported by legislation, policy and national frameworks.

Our call to action for parents, caregivers, educators and other children’s health advocators is very simple:

Do not put your head in the sand!
Lend your voice by pledging to stand for:

  • A world where kids can grow up without being harmed by accessing graphic, violent online pornography
  • Prevention of children’s access to pornography through digital child protection buffers
  • Updated legislation and education to address pornography harms as a public health crisis

Our goal is to collect 10,000 signatures so that we know we have your support (as a health promotion charity), to call upon our government, tech companies and education providers to take a tougher stance against pornography, increase awareness and dramatically improve regulation.

Adding your voice of support makes a difference because:

  • It provides us with the necessary social proof that demonstrates interest and support to protect our kids from the harms of online pornography
  • It amplifies voices of advocacy for this cause, which are essential to take on this tough battle on behalf of our kids
  • It allows us to increase our reach and spread awareness across Australia and beyond…

YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Unsupervised on the internet, within a few short minutes your child (or any child), can both accidentally or intentionally access pornographic material that has the potential to result in long term harms.

The consequences of exposing children and youth to mainstream hardcore pornography may be evident straightaway; can compound over time; can lead to addiction and other mental health issues; or is sometimes only be realised when that young person first engages in sexual acts or a sexual relationship with a partner. To better understand the harmful impact that porn has on psychological and physical health of children we urge you to read our statement of research.

Whilst it is true that pornography does not affect all children in the same way, a “pornified culture” and ease of access to pornography results in children being vulnerable to both direct and indirect harms, including placing them at risk for technology facilitated forms of sexual exploitation and abuse.

We firmly believe that once any parent, childcare provider or child advocate becomes informed, they will not be able to remain silent. In this instance knowledge is certainly power - and we NEED YOUR HELP to lead a discussion about this very important topic, so that strong changes can be made, and future generations are protected.
